Not a deer to be seen, but rather a flurry of Japanese photographers! Why? Because it's so very beautiful! The temple, totally immersed in cosmos flowers, is also known as the Cosmos Temple.
Hannya-ji Temple, built in AD 629 during the Asuka period (Asuka is a few kilometres from Nara), has the highest stone pagoda in Japan. Doesn’t that appeal to you? As for me, I’m overjoyed by the vivacity the flowers add to this splendid temple.

My favourite sight in Hannya-ji is simply this view of the pagoda with its lotuses and the benevolent moon hanging low in the sky behind.
I’ve spent hours here and have no regrets; what’s more my visit is rewarded by this soothing sunset. As if in a dream…
All that's left for me to do now is go down to the restaurant for a tasty venison steak. All this peace and quiet has given me an appetite?
